BCI-952 Features

  • Shows neurogenic effects on human neural stem cells in vitro
  • Confirmed neurogenesis in vivo
  • Confirmed activity in behavioral models for depression
  • Confirmed activity in human proof-of-concept clinical study

BCI-952

BrainCells is developing BCI-952 based on the identification of a novel combination effective in depression which was discovered using the BrainCells platform.

Highly Neurogenic Compound Targets Depression and Cognition

BCI-952 is an internally-developed fixed dosage combination of buspirone and melatonin not previously shown to be effective in depression. BrainCells identified this novel combination by screening over 1,000 compounds that, combined, presented over 150 different mechanisms. This particular combination:

  • Showed neurogenic effects on human neural stem cells in vitro
  • Confirmed neurogenesis in vivo, and
  • Confirmed activity in behavioral models for depression

Clinical Results

A Phase II investigator initiated trial was completed in 2009 highlighting the predictive nature of the BrainCells platform. These BCI-952 study results showed activity in patients suffering from depression. Read press release ยป
