Maurizio Fava, M.D.
Professor, Harvard Medical School
Dr. Maurizio Fava is Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Associate Chief for Clinical Research of the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Depression Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. His major research interests are the development of effective short-term and long-term strategies in the treatment of depression and several depressive subtypes. Dr. Fava has conducted a number of clinical investigations in the area of treatment-resistant depression and short-term and long-term tolerability issues during antidepressant treatment. He has authored and co-authored more than 200 original articles, edited four books and is widely published in international medical journals. Dr. Fava is a well-known national and international speaker in the field of psychiatry. Dr. Fava obtained his medical degree from the University of Padova School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency training in endocrinology. He then moved to the U.S. and completed residency training in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Top
Andrew A. Nierenberg, M.D.

Dr. Andrew Nierenberg is currently Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Associate Director of the Depression Clinical and Research Program, Medical Director of the Bipolar Programs. His primary interests are treatment resistant depression, management of antidepressant side effects, the longitudinal course of affective disorders, and pharmacoepidemiology. Having published over 150 original articles, chapters, reviews, and abstracts, Dr. Nierenberg has been listed among the best doctors in North America for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders since 1994. Dr. Nierenberg is currently involved in both the Systematic Treatment Enhancement Program for Bipolar Disorder (STEP-BD) and the Sequential Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D) NIMH contracts, two unprecedented clinical trials that will include thousands of patients with mood disorders. His work has led to his appointment as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Bernard Osher Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Nierenberg is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, Bronx, New York. Mark H. Rapaport, M.D.

Dr. Mark Rapaport is Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he also holds the Polier Endowed Chair in Schizophrenia and Related Disorders. He is also Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Rapaport's research interests are focused on psychopharmacology, investigating the biologic genesis of anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, and immunity abnormalities in schizophrenia. Dr. Rapaport has written over 160 articles for such peer-reviewed publications as American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and Neuropsychopharmacology. He currently serves as Co-Editor and Chief of FOCUS: The Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry. Dr. Rapaport is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, the Psychiatric Research Society and the Collegium International Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP). He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the CINP. Dr. Rapaport received his bachelor's degree from Revelle College at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and his medical degree from the UCSD School of Medicine. Top
Alan F. Schatzberg, M.D.

Dr. Schatzberg is the Kenneth T. Norris, Jr. Professor and Chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Schatzberg is an active investigator in the biology and psychopharmacology of anxiety and depressive disorders. He has authored or edited over 200 publications, including the Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology and the recently-published Textbook of Psychopharmacology. Dr. Schatzberg has recently investigated antecedents of depression in adults. Specifically, his research has demonstrated that social phobia during adolescence frequently precedes adult depression. He is now embarking on a study to test whether an intervention to treat social phobia during adolescence can reduce the likelihood of subsequent depression. Dr. Schatzberg is committed to having the Department of Psychiatry play a key role in the Stanford Center on Adolescence. Top
